Dentures A New Smile

If You have Dentures or are needing Dentures. This is the place for Support.

It's been 8 months now since I got my full upper. I still have work to do on the bottom but the upper was not done right so I plan on getting a new upper when I do the lower work.

These days I find my self getting more and more accustomed to it. My upper denture is begining to feel like my mouth now. I don't seem to be freaking out about something with it everyday as I was, but it has taken time.Things like too much saliva or not enough saliva. Using adhesive or not using it. I try to remain very flexible when it comes to my denture. What works great for a week or so may very well change. Once I got used to that fact things become much eaiser.

I wish this site had more people talking about their adjustments to wearing dentures. Most of what I see on here is people approching eday and then support for the few weeks following eday. And that's great... It sure helped me alot. But I think we could use more discussion on " I have dentures and hate them" Or... "I have dentures and it's been a year and things still are not right" Somehow I get the impression that we have our eday, then get our "perms" and then live happily ever after. I know that not everyone on our site is living happily ever after with their new perms.
Sorry... It's 1:00 am and I 'm getting sleepy ang just rambling. Thanks for listening. Hope

Hello!! I know what you mean!! I'm actually one that has had dentures for almost 3 months and just not happy with them! I think my uppers were also not done right because I have to force my lip to close because when I relax my lips they tend to make my lip go up and show teeth!! Frustrated because I can't chew on meat like steak or my favorite Calamari they are too chewy that it hurts!

Honestly, my daughter has a major illness that is at times life-threatening. My husband had a fall and ended up in hospital this week with a smushed sternum. Luckily he did not have a stroke or heart attack. My daughter is my inspiration, because she has had to deal with many losses and adjustments to physical limits. If my daughter can deal with her life in a positive manner - I too can deal with piddling inconveniences without "too" much complaining.
Life is fragile.

That is not to minimize the anxiety and shame, no matter what age we are - I don't believe that because I am 60 that my feelings were any less than a 23 year olds. But hopefully I can work through those feelings and one day maybe I won't even be aware that these dentures are a foreign object in my mouth.
Cheers.

You are correct to a degree on people that do not post alot of follow up issues. Those of us past E-day sometimes need to vent....I get that...but positive thinking and mind over matter sometimes makes things go easier...at least that is what I keep telling myself
I too get frustrated at times (I am 5 weeks out since E-day) but my frustations are not keeping me from living a happy and normal life with dentures. I still can not eat alot of foods..and to me that is frustrating when we go out to dinner the restuarant is based on whether or not they have something on the menu I can eat.
I am worried that I am going to have some kind of misshap with all of my friends around...and I know those types of things are petty but those are the type things I myself are dealing with in this moment...who knows another month from now I may have different things that frustrate me but I know I will have to figure out how to deal with them because I sure the hell am not going to let wearing dentures get in the way of me living my life.

I am not thrilled with having a bottom denture...it becomes loose when I talk alot or eat but I know things will get better when I have either the mini implants done or perm put in.

I guess I am just so darn thankful that I can actualy look people in the eye and smile at them...for so many years I could not.
I am in no way making light of your post...and I too may one day post something that is not quite so positive and there is a chance I maybe ignored..but hey...to each their own.
I do wish you luck and better days ahead and I will be willing to listen to anything you have to say

Hope - The below post post is an example of why people don't post here with problems. Your point that not everyone is always happy happy happy with their dentures - temp or final was completely missed.

I only check this site now because I'm concerned about a certain person undergoing a terrible infection after her e-day - and guess what - not too many people gave support. In fact - not too many people copped onto the fact that she should have admitted herself to the hospital. I guess she wasn't 'positive' enough.

The site is fine if you are routine - but if you're going through a really tough time - don't count on this board for much help.

Hope, I'm glad to hear you're doing well with your upper. And it sounds like you're still wearing your 1st one, the immediates. That's great news. Good luck when it comes to your lowers. And good luck with the perms.

Your statement about people getting the "perms" and then living happily ever after may be spot on. I suspect it's true because that's the time when a lot of people drop off this site indefinitely. In a way it's good because for those of us with false teeth because all that becomes a non issue.
