sore on top gum

something strange happened on Wednesday.  went to work and as usual used fixodent for my upper denture.  had no problems, no pain, but when i took my denture out that night, there was a real sore spot on my gum.  never had a problem like this and since have been swishing with salt water (which burns), and have finally used benzodent - can't put the denture in it hurts too much when i bite down.  was able to look in my mouth and it looks like a canker sore or something.  wonder why it didn't bother me when i was wearing the denture at work on Wednedsay tho.  any suggestions on helping to heal.  my dentist has no hours until monday, but this is not a "sore spot" from the denture - it's a sore.

Possible chip of bone...and may take a day or so to resolve- meanwhile, gums mode. At least it's the weekend.
