So, this is the actual real beginning of my journey. I finally scheduled a consultation for July 27, 2009. I must say I am rather relieved. I have researched the topic of dentures extensively for the last 4 years. Always afraid to make the actual jump. The last straw came last month, I went to a dentist because I was in major amounts of pain. Dentist said I needed major work (of course I knew this), provided me with a treatment plan which had a total of more than $20,000. There is no way I am willing to sink $20,000 in to my mouth without a guarantee that I would never have to pay another dollar. Of course, that can't be guaranteed. Eleven years ago, July 11, 1998, I was abducted and raped. Needless to say I was not exactly in a healthy frame of mind. My stress level was extremely high and just getting out of bed was a major obstacle. Fast forward a few years..I was now able to cope with what had happened and started once again living life. Went to a dentist needed work done, had the work done, and 6 months later ended up with a major infection and had 3 teeth pulled. My mouth has gotten progressively worse. I just want to put the past behind me. Everytime I smile, I am reminded of the pain from 11 years ago. I would love to spend $36,000 on implants, but at this stage in my life, I am unable to do so. Maybe once my children are grown up and out of the house. Until then I just want to be able to smile and know I look good. I am also tired of the constant aches and pains my mouth has caused me. I realize dentures aren't perfect, but is anything ever perfect? I am excited to begin this journey and so thankful I found this group, I am not alone, and that is a huge comfort.
