Dentures A New Smile

I'm curious what foods, nuts are not to be consumed with dentures? My Mother eats corn on the cob but she said she puts alot of powder on dentures so that they do not even budge in the slightest. She is very vain and won't even let her husband see her without her teeth on. I think its kindof funny.

My mom said white bread sticks to the roof of her mouth, but she eats everything else. My husband eats anything, neither one of them puts adhesive on their uppers. My husband sometimes says food gets underneath and hurts, but that's it. They both eat lettuce, nuts, corn on the cob, you name it, they eat it.
Thanks Lori,
I have found that everything is getting stuck under my top denture. Does your husband or you have any suggestions on how to get it out?? You know its not classy to yank them out at the table....lol.
Lisa,
The only food I have issues with are nuts, gum and tough cuts of meat . If tenderized meat prior to cooking it then meat is not an issue. I pretty much have whatever I like . I believe you just have to be smart about the way you consume food. I can pretty much understand your mother not want her husband to see her . I didn't want mine to see me with out teeth until one day he walk in the bathroom just as I took them out. Now I could care less he loves me regardless.

Hi Liza, At first there is a lot that is hard to eat. Then you will learn what you can or not. After 3 maybe 4 months I was eating everything. I may have been able to before, I just didn't try corn on cob or nuts, popcorn. Now I eat all of that plus some.

Chris mentioned sticky candy and gum. Sticky candy No way. Gum now I did get brave and bought Freedent It did not stick or give me any trouble.

Also remember that every one is different, So just give yourself time and start trying different stuff. Best of luck to you and keep us posted.

LOL~Patty~
On the gum , it depends on the brand. I didn't even think and stuck a piece of Trident in my mouth and it stuck all over every inch of my partial. I couldn't scrape it off. My mom told me some brands are better than others.
I've had a partial for years and I love Freedent gum. It's the only one I've found that never sticks. I have my own teeth on top in front and I NEVER eat corn on the cob for fear they'll break off. I'm impressed that so many with dentures are eating it! I can't remember the last time I bit into a nice crispy apple either. Does anyone manage that with dentures?
My mother does but she has her dentures plastered to her mouth....she does not allow them to budge even slightly !!

Do you guys in the US eat pork crackling??? As in straight from a roast pork??? (not the packet stuff) I love it and plan to eat heaps of it the night before E-day. I have a strong suspicion that it may be off the menu with dentures??!!

Oh well, like Jen did with her steak, ill just have to suck the juice out!!!!!
If it happens to me at a restaurant, I get up and go to the bathroom. If it's the bottom's, I just use a napkin and cover my mouth, then clean them off under the table, and stick them back in.

I eat nuts, popcorn and well just about anything that I want. I have always taken small bites of anything I eat, I do think that it helps and mostly keeping a positive attitude. Hey they are our teeth and treat them as such. LOL Btw, haven't tried gum, just not worth it to me, yet. It does get better with practice....

the host during communion stickes to the upper palate for me at least!!
