Dentures A New Smile

If You have Dentures or are needing Dentures. This is the place for Support.

I'm about two months and half with my upper and lower denture adventure and so far it's been a challenge!! I would love to hear anyone's opinion with implants!! What are the Pro's and Con's about them? I hear good things about them and bad? I was thinking of getting implants so this Thursday I have an appointment to talk about them? So before I go I would love to hear from you since I know opinions on here are best than in a dental office!!! Please help!!!!

I would love to hear those stories too. I have implants on the bottom and can't use them yet. I am so ready to be able to. I just want to know if I am going to be as happy with them as my dentist says I will be. :)

Yes, Jennifer I'm excited to hear what opinions I will get? just curious on what your dentist said to you about your implants how you will adjust and if they seem to be better than dentures?

I think everyones situation is different but I am happy to share mine. I had full dentures for about 4 - 5 years before I got implants. I went with the permanent fixed bridges - so I have a total of 16 implants (8 upper & 8 lower) and a total of 3 bridges on the top and 4 on the bottom. The teeth are awesome! they look and feel like real teeth but the 9 - 10 month process to get them was a lot of work. A lot of dental visits for fittings, checking the implants, etc - during that time my dentures could not fit quite right even after many adjustments because of the implant caps, etc. I would do it all over again though - the implanted teeth are wonderful - I have had the lower bridges for 1 yr 3 months and the upper bridges for about a year. Cost wise it was 60,000 for the whole implant deal that I did - that included the surgeries to place the implants, bone graft on the top rear, all ct scans and xrays, all the implants & abutments & caps, the perment porcelain over titanium bridges, unlimited visits for adjustments & fittings. Good luck with your consult and I hope this helps some.

thanks Sharon and ramp rat for your replies!! It helps to see what I will expect if I decide to get implants! Dentist cant really tell you how a denture and implant wearer will feel cause they got there real teeth!! So this is why I love to hear from experts on this website!!

My dentist and all the assistants at his office said that their patients tell them how wonderful they are and how happy they are that they got them.. I also have the removable type. I plan on getting the upper implants if it is in our finances to do so after I pay off what I have already had done.. Keeping fingers crossed..

I have only 2 implants on my lowers, I love them! It's nice not having them move all the time.

Do the implants do anything to prevent bone loss? If so, is it just in that spot where they put them at or the whole jaw bone is preserved?

I had the same question Jessica and really can't get an answer. I do know some claims by dentist are a bit exaggerated. (just bump into a $70,000. implant wearer, they think they will prevent bone loss by paying their way ). My mom has plain dentures over 30 years and doesn't need glue! My researching on the topic found that implants may stimulate bone but you will still have some bone loss. It's not going to stop bone loss after extraction. The rate of shrinkage does slow down as told by my os after 1 year.

so does your mom have full upper and lower? See I have heard many different things from alot of dentists and people that have them. I see you alot on here do you have both or just upper or just lower? I dont wanna waste my money so I know it wont completely stop it but was hoping to atleast slow it some ya know? I am so afraid that I am gonna look all goulish, witch chin, jowls, and what not ya know?

Sorry havent been on here much but I was told that full implants due help the loss of bone but that denture wears can usually loose bone so I'm more worried on the bone lost like you Jessica! Afraid that 10 years down the road I loose bone and nothing can hold my dentures! Ugh!! So confused!!
