I am so depressed

Thank you to everyone who replied...I have been so depressed and cannot stop crying. I am so scared to make the wrong decision. I have been given the short end of the stick throughout my life and my smile always hid my pain. Now that one of my front teeth has broken off I cannot even leave the house. I thought that this dentist was reputable because he is popular with commercials, etc... He stated that if I really needed them he would have told me. Now that I look back I think he was scamming me. How cruel is that! You are all so nice to help me out! I had the energy to make some calls and I have some appointments for 2nd opinions...but now I am having a hard time trusting these people.

Permalink Reply by drea on July 8, 2009 at 2:44pm: Wait - what is the problem - a tooth broke off a denture - or a broken front tooth? If it's just a broken front tooth it can be root canalled and crowned.

I had two broken front teeth from a car accident when I was 7. They were root canalled (had to be done twice) - they were crowend - and they lasted 'til I was 42! And the ONLY reason they went bad was because some money hungry dentist said that my 'restorations were too old" and once he took then off and "fixed" them - all hell broke loose - and all my upper teeth started dying and cracking - nightmare city. And my beautiful fixed bridge I've only had for 2 years but I've been losing the upper molars so - I want an upper denture - and yes - I'm nervous about that decision.

If it's a broken front tooth - whether a real tooth or a denture - either should be fixable.

My dentist told me years ago whenever I was through trying he wouldn't blame me. He told me if I wanted to keep them I would have to cap them. After several root canals, I had had enough. I have never regretted my decision. You will do the right thing for you. Some people can justify thousands of dollars to keep their natural teeth. I couldn't . I love my denture. Just take time and read everything you can and then decide.; ▶ Reply to This
